Not everyone that gets into Martial arts is interested in bash and smash; nor is everyone interested in just philosophical talks, or even pretentious drills.  There are so many different views, wants, desires and goals when people decide to get involved in some sort of martial arts training.  Some schools ARE geared to going extremely physical hardcore; others do just a lot of drills----and then you also have some schools that even go into extreme mystical stuff. But the best ones, in our opinion are the ones that 1) Considers real students' capacities, 2) Encourages students for increased physical and psychological pressure threshold/realism, and 3) Set a philosophical tune for a continuous healthy life style that ensures physical and mental longevity and not deterioration or degeneration of human faculties.  Therefore the schools that balance these elements are the ones that are taking up the most optimal and balanced  approach in our opinion.     At Phoenix JKD Institute, we are constantly developing methodological approaches to pushing students to their optimal thresholds, while considering their health and longevity.  Of course we are not shy to those who wish to go a little harder than normal--- depending on their physique, genetic,  or constitutional capacity and make up.
