Phoenix JKD: Courtesy—the Engine of Killer Instinct

Phoenix JKD: Courtesy—the Engine of Killer Instinct
You want to be a good fighter? Then work on courtesy. You want to be a focused and determined individual? Start with courtesy then. You want to build on your killer instinct? Then focus on the virtue of courtesy. You want to be more calm? Then increase your capacity for courtesy. You want people to see your true value? Then be courteous. To be a loud mouth and obnoxious is the common trait of any fool and it’s very easy to do, but to be courteous under pressure is the rare trait of a true warrior! The point is, the true foundation of killer instinct is courtesy. It may be counter-intuitive to many of you, but courtesy is the main engine of the killer instinct. The more respectful you are, the more reasons you would have, to bring out the killer instinct at the right time and the right place. Even your pain tolerance, speed, explosiveness, determination, stamina and a host of other attributes are primarily impacted by your sense of courtesy first! Courtesy is the disguised  psycho-friend of killer instinct in a very sincere way. It’s one of the rare virtues that is not only necessary for a good, civilized man/woman, but a much needed [reason] to why you must switch to your animal and primitive nature when needed. So to be a “bad ass”, first you must meditate on the meaning of true and sincere courtesy and respect! Without that, your rational powers would be too weak and would lack a true sustaining spirit!
Therefore, the first lesson in martial arts is to be courteous! Learn to be a nice guy/gal first before anything else!
